Our Story: A Legacy of Learning
Mirriwinni State School has a rich history that began with the humblest of beginnings. On October 16, 1916, our journey started in a small cottage measuring just 21 feet by 14 feet, rented from local storekeeper Mr. McKinnon. Under the guidance of our first teacher, Miss Josephine Hall, ten boys and ten girls took their first steps in education—without even a blackboard!
Fast forward to today, and our school has transformed beyond imagination. From one-room lessons to cutting-edge technology, including computers, interactive whiteboards, and modern learning spaces, Mirriwinni has continually evolved to meet the needs of our students.
Yet, despite all the changes, one thing has remained constant—the incredible sense of belonging that makes our school so special. Here, every child is welcomed into a supportive, caring, and encouraging environment, where they are inspired to grow with honour, trust, and dedication.
Our school motto says it all:
"Success Follows Effort."
At Mirriwinni State School, we believe that with passion, perseverance, and a strong community, anything is possible!
